Classes
We are charging a minimum $5 fee for all classes to discourage no-shows. To register and pay the fee you follow the registration link after the class description.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, our classes will be offered on-line using a cloud-based service, WebEx. You will be sent an email containing a link that will allow you to join the online class ten minutes before the session begins. To assure that the class is not interrupted with unwanted noise, we ask that you mute your microphone until you wish to ask a question or make a comment at the end of the class. Since this is the first time we are attempting to hold classes online, we ask for your understanding and goodwill as we undertake this adventure.
Starting your own Vegetable Seedlings
Were you were not able to find seedlings for that special variety that you wanted to grow last year? Or, if available, they were not organically grown? or unhealthy looking? or over-priced? You then thought you should grow you own seedlings, but did not know how to start. If so, this class is for you. This hands-on class will cover the basics of seed starting (how and when to do so) and seed sources (best local and catalogue companies), then quickly move on to sowing seeds provided by Project Grow (or by students), and finally to transplanting seedlings. These seedlings will be at different stages of growth to show students what they look like as they develop, as well as provide them with transplanting material. Students will then take home all that they worked on in class.
Class will be taught by enthusiastic and experienced gardeners Marcella Trautman and Kirk Jones.
Please note the class runs 3 hours
Class size is limited to 12. Pre-registration is required. Class fee: $10. Register here. No drop-ins.
Planting and Growing Annual Flowers - the blooming truth
This class focuses on eight annual flowers that can be direct seeded outdoors to produce flowers that year. Half are frost tolerant and can be planted as soon as the gardens open and the other four should be planted after all danger of frost is past. All make good cut flowers.
Students will receive 8 seed packets containing 20 to 50 seeds of each variety, along with planting and care instructions. The eight flowers are:
larkspur, nigella, bachelor button, calendula
zinnia, marigold, cosmos, tithonia (Mexican sunflower)
Instructor is Kirk Jones.
Registration fee: $10. Register here. Class limit: 10. Please check the website to read about any changes to the course [eg: time, location].
